What is a battery?

A battery can be any device that stores energy for later use. The word battery is limited to an electrochemical device that converts chemical energy into electricity, by use of a galvanic cell. A galvanic cell is a simple device consisting of two electrodes – positive & negative and an electrolyte solution. Batteries consist of one or more galvanic cells with a potential difference between the electrodes.

What are the different types of batteries?

There are different types of batteries depending on the application.
Lead Acid batteries are Used for UPS, Telecom, Automotive and industrial applications.
Lithium Ion, Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride etc : Used in laptops, phones etc.

What are the advantages of Lithium-ion batteries as compared to other rechargeable batteries?

Lithium-ion batteries have several advantages over other rechargable batteries such as high energy density, low self discharge, very low maintenance required, can operate at higher voltage.

Are Lithium-ion batteries harmful to environment?

Lithium-ion batteries are considered as the most environment friendly batteries and for that reason it is also called as Green Batteries.

How long does Lithium-ion batteries last?

Lithium-ion batteries have 3 times higher lifecycle as compared to Lead Acid batteries.

How should I dispose of Lithium-ion batteries?

Lithium-ion batteries are recycable batteries and should be recycled. It should never be destroyed.
